It's known that spammers employ WWW robots/spiders/wanderers to scan websites to harvest email addresses. We could avoid the vicious scanning by changing the format of emails on web pages, such as change the sign @ with at or some other alternatives.

But there is a more aggressive way fight back against spammers. Basically it's a vivid example of "an eye for an eye" strategy. By dynamically generating faked email addresses and lure email collecting robots into an infinite loop, spam poison adds enormous quantities of bogus data to the databases of the spammers, thus pollute those files so badly that they become essentially useless. Spammers will have to clean out their databases or will receive a LOT of returned emails.

spampoison is an online application of spam poison. So just go get the code and add it to your website to get spammer robots sucked. Ummm...the irony is that on the page where the site encourages volunteers to translate and localize itself, it is writtend that "we'd love to hear from you. Please, e-mail the correct text to revisions(at)spamsaver.net" wink

Hi,
This is the first time I have leanrt of "poisoning" the spammers databases. I think it is a fantastic idea. Where do I begin.

Thanks for the insightful piece.
