I just sent an email to J.D., Murali, and Ronnie, co-founders of weblogs.us. Since Weblogs.us is a free blog hosting service for Movable Type based blogs, I'm curious how they would deal with the new MT commercial licence which strictly limits the number of authors a MT system can accomodate.
It's for sure the existing weblogs.us users have exceeded the 20 limits. The thing I'm concerned about is whether the weblogs.us folks would stick to the MT 2.x they are currently using now, which is free of the author limits, or they would turn to another blogware. Anyway, the existence of weblogs.us is a bliss for those who want a MT-based blog but unable to setup one. However, it might not sound good to SixApart in that the free MT service provider is a potential threat to the profit of Typepad hosted by SixApart [ I do agree with Owen's analysis on the MT pricing strategy ].
Ronnie wrote in his reply:
I actually just sent JD an email regarding this. Im not sure on his decision. We can for sure keep using MT 2.x and I think they will produce a free version of 3 but it will be limited and we are not sure of the license yet. I know JD is looking into it so im sure he will announce if there is a change.
Let's see.
