Though I haven't blogged for a few days, I still check my blog from time to time to moderate the comments. As you read in the section "Something You Should Know Before You Post a Comment", I edit or delete those content obviously inappropriate or offensive. That's a necessary step if you run a blog in that you don't want your blog to be abused by vicious visitors who spam your blog with links to their sponsored porn websites.
Today my blog was crammed with comments linked to porn sites. They all wear sugar coats like "what a wonderful site!" "nice blog" but in essence they are poisonous. This is not the first time my blog got bombed by those spam comments but this is the biggest one. I've got 62 altogether today and even when I'm writing this entry they are still coming! And the worse thing is that after I cleared out all the bad comments in the morning, they flooded again in the afternoon. "IP banning" in movabletype is of no use when the comments came from unique IP addresses.
I'm considering enabling comment moderation which is known as one of the most significant improvements in Movabletype 3.0. But that's not exactly what I want to do. I hope people can post whatever they think of my post or myself freely and I can understand how frustrated to find out comments would be published after the blogger approve them. I'm gonna fight back, but how?
Update:
I'm not the only one running into this problem. Even Wang Jianshuo posted in Movabletype Support Forum for help. I'll keep an eye on that topic and hopefully get an answer from the geeks.
