01:51Why I Blog?Thought

I'm studying why people blog. Before I ask every blogger I run into the question "why do you blog?", it's wise to think over the question myself beforehand. So, why I blog? The following reasons are not in a particular order.

1. Tweaking Movable Type is fun. I feel like "queen of the blog".

I used to work as a web editor and hated the awkward CMS to death. Whenever I tried to change some configurations [ without evil I swear! ], a pop-up with a huge BANG would freak me out. That is absolutely unbearable for a person who usually explores the "options" or "preferences" whenever she installs a new app. For the sake of reason I gave up Blogger.com too after realizing I can't change it the way I like. MovableType suits me best in that it's powerful and compliant--now I have full control over everything on my blog. It's a good toy I play with my HTML+CSS practices. Nothing is cooler than changing the looks of two hundred pages in seconds, eh?

2. Updating blog(s) is fast and convenient.

Did you ever have a homepage? Have to locate the source files, change the content with HTML editor, then upload them to your server? I did. The tedious process kept me from updating frequently. That's why whenever I planned to update my homepage I ended up with redesigning it. Blogging turns this torture into a joy by a few clicks. What's more, I don't have to carry my own computer to update my blog--wherever I can access to the Internet, I can edit it.

3. Fight against procrastination.

Lacking updates generates a sense of guilty effectively. A sense of guilty will lead to self-reflection and finally promote actions. See, I'm a person who wants to control a lot of things but usually fails to control myself well. I need some motivations to keep up.

4. Comb out my thoughts and practise English.

Writing is a good process to comb ideas. You might mistake your desire to be creative for your capability to be creative. Writing thoughts down will help avoid that.

5. Log everything worthy.

As stated above, I am a person of poor memory. It is crucial to record down something fun/painful in life in case I won't have memories when I grow old. Think of the power of average people's blogging. Today they are trivials only; tomorrow they will be history.

6. Share.

Sharing is rewarding. I love surfing the Web and try different new things (diffusion of innovation, huh?). I am eager to tell others about what I discover but obviously it's not ethical to bug my friends with spam-like emails like "hey, check this out!". Therefore I'd point them to my treasure here. They could stop by when they are free and don't have the obligation to reply my ranting emails. That's also why I maintain my photoblog--save much time on transferring photos to friends.

7. To meet friends.

This is not my initial intention to blog. Nevertheless, through blogging I did find some people sharing similar ideas/views/experiences with me. Happy accident.
