Via MSNBC,

A widening, multistate out break of E. coli bacterium has prompted the FDA to caution consumers nationwide not to eat raw, packaged spinach.

There is still a huge bag of spinach in my fridge but it has to get out now. E. coli is spreading and I don't want to be a victim. It's comforting that I always boil spinach before eating it for I don't like the taste of raw spinach. But it's safe to keep it in mind and don't take the risk. Alas.

E. coli is:

* A form of bacteria that commonly lives in the human body.
* One strain releases a toxin that can cause severe illness.
* The germ is present in uncooked beef, unpasteurized milk and juice, and on raw sprouts and lettuce. [ source ]
