Via Northwestern Technology News: eCommunicator Winter 07.
NU Blog, a new service from NUIT Academic Technologies, was designed with collaboration and extension in mind. Exclusively available through Northwestern's Course Management System, NU Blog offers faculty and students a more convenient way to share their reflections within a class environment.
Since its Winter Quarter launch, at least 15 courses have expressed interest in the service. Academic Technologies is currently working on adding a course blog feature where users can collaboratively converse in a central blog, rather than through their individual blogs.
NUBlog, the blogging service for students and faculty, is exclusively available through Northwestern's Course Management System, Blackboard. This academic service offers students a more convenient way to share their reflections in and out of the classroom.
NUBlog is a non-traditional blog in the sense that it is not viewable on the open Internet; it is only accessible through Blackboard and only for academically related subjects.
NUBlog's customary features include calendar display, commenting, trackbacks, and RSS notifications. Users are also able to attach key words to blog entries and allow display of entries based on a key word or phrase, creating more ease of view and search.
NUBlog offers students an easy way to collaborate and share reflections within a class environment. Like other blogs, NUBlog presents bloggers' reflections in chronological order, with the most recently authored content appearing first.
Accounts for every student in a class are enabled when an instructor requests that an NUBlog link be created in their course site, allowing students to easily share their blog content with their classmates in that course.
